ARTnimaux ! Domestique du foyer
One exhibition, one day each month, thirty minutes, one animal family leading to the works!
Animals are at the heart of the museum's concerns this year, so it's only natural that they should lead curious visitors to the works that represent them. Moving from one animal to another, the animal families will provide an opportunity for artistic and eclectic discoveries... This month, the DOMESTIC ANIMALS OF THE HOME are our guides to the works, so follow them!
Considered by some to be man's best friend, the dog was the first animal to be domesticated by Homo Sapiens, so even before taming nature for his own benefit by inventing agriculture, man drew closer to what was then his greatest competitor. This relationship goes back thousands of years, making dogs the second most domesticated animal in France today! While the dog's sociability and loyalty make it an indisputable companion above and beyond its own usefulness, for the cat, the first animal on the podium, the reasons and the durability of the rapprochement with Man are more prosaic: the protection of food. Its independence, and therefore the impossibility of training it, make it a special creature in our homes, whose relationship with humans has oscillated between fascination, veneration and fear, depending on the time and place.
From one species to another, we will leap from a Sèvres ceramic to an oil on canvas, from an oil on porcelain to a bronze statuette... In this way, we will experience the simple pleasure of following our best friends for what they are and not for what they can do for us: constant companions, dependent on us as much as we are infatuated with them, to the point of sometimes considering them as members of the family!
The Musée de la Loire invites you to (stand up) for a little cultural and artistic lunchtime break. If you've got nothing else to do, and you're not afraid of getting your goat in a knot... then why not join us? Then join us, and if we can't get you to swallow anything, we'll do our best to amaze you each month with the most beautiful animal representations in our exhibition!
