Conférence : Pêcher en Loire
Presented by Anatole Danto, eco-anthropologist
This conference will take an anthropological approach to the issue of fishing in the Loire basin.
Fishing practices in the Loire are changing, but they are multi-faceted and rooted in a historical tradition of using the river.
The presentation will briefly retrace this regional history, before focusing on contemporary developments in fishing practices. The various fishing activities, both professional and recreational, will be discussed, as will the controversies in which they find themselves at the start of the 21st century, between nature conservation and the exploitation of resources. Finally, there will be a discussion of the heritage of fishing, a living but endangered heritage, in the light of the project to include the nautical knowledge of the Loire as intangible cultural heritage by 2025 by this inter-regional group.
