Recognized as an appellation d'origine contrôlée since 1937, the Pouilly Fumé vineyard - located in the Nièvre department, on the right bank of the Loire - belongs to the mosaic of appellations of the Centre-Loire region.
The 1,400 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc vines are farmed by around a hundred winegrowers. This chameleon-like grape, which reflects each character of its environment, is a faithful interpreter of the appellation's terroirs.
The appellation is contained within a 7 km radius around the Saint Andelain hill, and the 3⁄4 of the appellation are concentrated less than 3 km from the Loire. A small area for a great diversity of environments; hills, valleys, geological faults etc, vary soils, microclimates and many other elements that interact with the vines....
